Transport & Getting there

GETTING THERE

The Sydney Skinny celebrates all that is good in the World – pollution isn’t one. And as parking is limited, if possible, please leave your car behind and use public transport, rideshare, stroll or bicycle to get to Middle Head, Sydney Harbour National Park.

The Event is located at the very end of Middle Head Road.  Walk into the boom gate and follow the signs.

Parking in the surrounds of Middle Head National Park costs $15 for the day or $6 per hour.

***IMPORTANT: We have some challenges this year with traffic. There is a Triathlon on the same day and the road will be closed from the roundabout at HMAS Penguin.  Participants will be asked to walk in from there and no participant vehicles will be allowed in.

SHUTTLE

IF WE CAN OPERATE IT: Our free mini bus shuttle service will collect you from Mosman Junction and Taronga Zoo Wharf and take you to and from The Sydney Skinny (from 9am until 1pm). The service from Taronga Zoo Wharf will commence at 9am after the first ferry has come in. Flag down a bus with our sign in the window.

There are buses that go from Taronga Zoo to Middle Head the 238 and 111 route takes 28 mins from the Wharf.

An Uber is approximately $15 from the Wharf to Middle Head.

Please see below the ferry timetable for getting to Taronga Zoo Wharf.

You can use the NSW Transport planner to help you plan your trip here: http://www.transportnsw.info

Cobblers Beach will be clear of boats from 5am so if you do plan to arrive via water, please find alternate mooring sites.

Swim Courses

course map

SWIM COURSE

The Swim is not timed and nor is it a race.  You choose one of two swim courses on the day, the 900m or the nudie novice 300m – both courses are designed to keep swimmers close to the beach at all times.  Follow the relevant buoys that will guide you.

All swimmers in each wave will start together and you can change your distance selection on the day.

SAFETY

Three water safety boats and 15 x lifesaving staff from South Maroubra Surf Club will be on rescue boards providing water safety on the day. If you need assistance, DO NOT PANIC.  Raise your arms to get the attention of one of the lifesavers who will assist you.

SWIMMING AIDS

You are welcome to bring any swim aids you choose. Fins, pool noodles and swim boards welcome - but please be mindful of other swimmers.

SARONGS

To protect your modesty and celebrate your fantastic achievement, you will be handed a collectable, 2024 Sydney Skinny Sarong from our Sarong Team as you leave the water.

Party Wave

PARTY WAVE – WAVE 8

Every swimmer has the chance to swim again in the last wave of the day. The requirement is to have a wristband or to be a member of staff or a volunteer.

When this wave is finished the event closes and you’re welcome to stay on the beach. Please note, the shuttle buses will stop running at 1pm (before this wave finishes) and all water safety, staff and volunteers will finish their shifts.  The end of this wave signals the end of the event and also our responsibility for your safety.

BARE ALL TO BEAT BRAIN CANCER

2024 will be the fifth year the Sydney Skinny unites the brain cancer community in the fight against this insidious disease.
